Bird of Prey: Alone but Together

Bird of Prey: Alone but Together

$15.03

During World War II, America placed its faith in the young lads who had just finished with high school.Experienced military commanders and career soldiers were ready, but “the troops” were made up of those young men who held other hopes for their futures. Duty called and they bravely met that call. Many, like Marvin W. Coffee, came from small towns and probably most had never been but a few miles from their homes. As we look back we can take a closer look how our war was won by these quickly trained young folks. How would one expect that a 21 year old fellow from the small farming community of Salem, Ohio would be the pilot of a B-17 and lead his crew on twenty seven combat missions? The farthest he had been from his northeaster Ohio town was a trip to Chicago when he won a rural electrification award. Would this young pilot’s parents ever imagine that his experience driving a tractor on their small farm would provide him with the knowledge that allowed him and his crew to get their downed plane out of the war torn ground of Belgium and back to their home base in Nuthampstead, England? This story is not an unusual story but it is one that was lived by many of our young men who served their country in that perilous war. We are thankful for their service and for their willingness to share some of their experience.

 Tiger Hills

Tiger Hills

$31.95

As the first girl to be born into the Nachimanda family in over thirty-five years, the beautiful Devi is the object of adoration of her entire family. Spirited and strong-willed, she befriends the shy Devanna, a young boy whose mother has died in tragic circumstances. Together they grow up amidst the luscious jungles, rolling hills, and coffee plantations of Coorg in Southern India; cocooned by an extended family whose roots to this beautiful land can be traced for centuries. Their futures seem inevitably linked, but everything changes when, one night, they attend a ‘tiger wedding’. It is there that Devi gets her first glimpse of Machu, the celebrated tiger killer and a hunter of great repute. Although she is still a child and Machu is a man, Devi vows to marry him one day. It is this love that will gradually drive a wedge between Devi and Devanna, sowing the seed of a devastating tragedy that will change the fate of all three – an event that has unforeseen and far-reaching consequences for generations to come. Told in rich, lyrical prose and set against the background of a changing society, TIGER HILLS is a sweeping saga about one woman’s determination to live life on her own terms — and a riveting novel about the choices we make in the name of family, nation, and love.
